Irvine Welsh will join the NTIA Night Time Economy Summit on Friday 10th February for an exclusive Keynote in collaboration with Resident Advisor for their RA Exchange series. Welsh has written many plays and screenplays, and directed several short films but is best known for his 1993 novel Trainspotting which was made into a film directed by Danny Boyle. The lively discussion will highlight 30 Years on from Trainspotting, his view on the current electronic music, club culture, and politics.

Says NTIA CEO Michael Kill:
“We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to speak to Irvine after his groundbreaking novel was brought to film almost 30 years ago, with such a raw and gritty view of life in the mid 80’s, challenging so many issues, some of which still exist today.”

“The interview will talk about his take on the current crisis, club culture, electronic dance music, political frustrations and the changes he has seen through his creative lens.”

The Summit will start with a highly anticipated shesaid.so Brunch with special guest London Night Czar Amy Lamé, discussing the important work that is being done in London on inclusivity, with some fantastic initiatives such as the Woman at Night Charter, Ask for Angela, WAVE Training and the Safeguarding Nightlife accreditation scheme which is being launched later in the programme.

Also announced today is the highly anticipated UK Music: Brexit Debate, led by Jamie Njoku Goodwin CEO UK Music, who will be exploring the real impacts of Brexit on the UK Music industry, and the challenges which reverberate throughout political chambers as the sector faces crisis after crisis.

With Accessibility and inclusivity high on the agenda of 2023 for the NTIA, the event will also welcome Suzanne Bull MBE, CEO of Attitude is Everything who will be hosting a panel on accessibility within the Night Time Economy. Are we doing enough? Where are we falling short?

Drug Harm Reduction is becoming an all encompassing phrase across society for people in public office as much as it is within the industry, but what does it mean? How do we navigate the legality? and how can we bring together key stakeholders with a mutual goal, we discuss this and more with the new CEO of The Loop Katy Porter, Professor Fiona Measham and Others..

Two NTIA reports will also be released at the summit:

  • The UK Night Time Economy Report will benchmark the economic position of the NTE sector, updating current workforce numbers and evaluating the impact of the current crisis to the sector business types in conjunction with CGA.
  • The UK Electronic Music Report is the first of its kind, and will demonstrate the economic, community and cultural value of the sector within the UK which will form part of a submission to DCMS and a broader piece of annual reporting which will allow us to evaluate the current market movements in terms of counter culture.
