Andy Burnham’s speech today set out a clear vision for a more devolved, business-focused Britain, and it reflects the consistent narrative we’ve seen develop through our engagement with Andy and his team over the past few years. Since his appearance at the Night Time Economy Summit in Liverpool, we’ve remained closely plugged into that evolving agenda, and it’s encouraging to see those principles now forming the foundation of his national vision.

His belief in handing greater powers to local leaders who have real accountability and “skin in the game” is an approach we have long supported. Those closest to the challenges facing towns and cities are often best placed to deliver meaningful solutions.

There is no doubt that he faces an immense challenge. The economic headwinds remain significant, and businesses across the UK’s night-time economy continue to grapple with rising costs, regulatory pressures and fragile consumer confidence. The decisions taken in the months ahead will be critical.

What gives our sector confidence is the consistency of that narrative. Throughout our engagement, Andy has remained focused on recognising the value of business, empowering local leadership and understanding the pressures facing industries like the night-time economy. It’s reassuring to hear those same priorities reflected so clearly in his vision for government.

We look forward to continuing that engagement and working constructively with the new government to ensure the night-time economy is recognised not simply as a sector to protect, but as a key driver of growth, jobs, investment and vibrant communities.
